On June 30, 2022, CEE Legal Matters hosted the fifth edition of the CEELM Budapest Law Firm Bowling Challenge: A competition of four-person teams from leading law firms in Hungary, with all proceeds going to the previous winner’s charity of choice. A total of 13 law firms competed for the trophy – and the bragging rights that go along with it.
Competing in the charity event were (in alphabetical order):
- Allen & Overy
- Baker McKenzie
- Ban, S.Szabo, Rausch & Partners
- Bird & Bird
- CMS
- DLA Piper
- KCG Partners
- Komor Hennel Attorneys
- Nagy & Trocsany
- Oppenheim
- Schoenherr
- Szecskay
- Wolf Theiss
After an intense competition, KCG Partners managed a solid comeback in the last round to win the championship, followed closely by Oppenheim and CMS.
The charity organization chosen by DLA Piper (the previous champions) to receive the evening's proceeds was the Hintalovon Foundation, which has been working to raise awareness of children’s rights in Hungary since 2015. The programs of the foundation include the Yelon program for the healthy development of children; the Pro Bono Child Rights Centre, providing free legal aid services; the Child Participation program, which aims to develop high school students’ knowledge of children’s rights and supports their effective participation; and the NEMECSEK Program for the prevention of school abuse. The foundation publishes the Child rights report annually, presenting the current situation of children’s rights in Hungary. The new champions – KCG Partners – will get to choose the recipient of the proceeds from next year’s edition.
“The bowling balls and the minutes flew fast, and although the teams took the challenge seriously, there was little doubt that the primary goals of the evening – having fun and relaxing with colleagues and counterparts – were met,” commented the event’s organizer CEELM’s Anna Vinar.
