Deloitte Legal Romanian affiliate Reff & Associates has advised Romania's National Agency for Fiscal Administration on implementing an EU-funded project to modernize tax controls, including amending the relevant legislation to provide the framework for intensifying desk audits and targeted checks.
The Increasing the Efficiency of the Fiscal Control Activity in Romania project was carried out with EU support from June 2022 to November 2023. It is part of Romania's digitalization process regarding its tax administration goal included in the country's National Recovery and Resilience Plan.
The project also aimed to "increase the share of desk audits, which are more efficient both in terms of time and costs, and thus free up resources which will be redirected towards targeted checks, based on the risk areas."
The Deloitte Legal team included Senior Managing Associate Bogdan Marculet, Managing Associates Stefan Mihartescu and Catalin Chibzui, and Associate Tatiana Milu who worked together with various Deloitte Romania tax professionals.
